After a 3 year hiatus, the festival that Oakville residents know and love is finally back – and this time it’s free!
This years event is scheduled for the August 2-4 long weekend and will once again take place in Coronation Park. Organizers are excited to bring this popular event back to Oakville, with a host of new and exciting ideas.
Some of the draws include an entire street of Ontario Food Trucks (new this year), a vendor village with local artisans, amusement rides, local craft breweries, and obviously live music.
Kids are always a big part of these types of family-oriented festivals, and they will have lots to do including interactive experiences and games, an ars and crafts area and rides courtesy of Ponies R’’ Us and Robertson Amusements.
Another new feature is that the entire Coronation Park will be liquor licensed, allowing people to drink beer and wine throughout the park without having to go to a beer tent. This is the first Oakville Waterfront Festival to do this.
The musical lineup has not yet been announced, but is expect any day now. Past years have seen high-profile musical acts such as Hedley, Jan Arden, Tom Cochran, Jesse Cook, Finger Eleven, Great Big Sea, Alannah Miles, Jully Black, Blue Rodeo, Colin James and Ill Scarlet.
A key reason why the Oakville Waterfront Festival is able to return after some tough years financially in the past is local corporate sponsorship. Returning sponsors such as Tim Hortons, Cogeco, and Mattamy Homes are back, with new sponsors Willson International, Coldstone, and Trinison adding much needed funding.
Celebrate Oakville, the company organizing the event, is looking for volunteers to help run the festival. If you’re interested, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Oakville Waterfront Festival will run from 6-11pm on Friday, 10am-11pm Saturday and 10am-6pm Sunday. For more information visit www.oakvillewaterfrontfestival.ca
