This company provided us a quote for landscaping without telling us of upfront fees. They came up with design my baby nephew could have drawn and now they
want almost $400 for design.  Then, they send account to collections agency.  What a two-bit company.  Anybody getting quotes in the area stay away from Garden Wizard!

Hi Heather & Dave,

It's unfortunate that our experience together was mutually unsatisfactory.  We pride ourselves on giving our clients a unique experience each and every time.  I apologize we were unable to do this in your case.

However, the design fees were discussed up front, over the phone before our initial meeting and in person when our designer met you at your home in Oakville.  This experience clearly has you upset and we share in that.  Your designer felt you truly had a strong rapport when you met but you didn't return calls or emails for months after receiving your design.  We couldn't even get in touch with you to offer you the free revision you were entitled to.  From the sounds of your first comment on this thread regarding the design, you could have used the revision.

It's not an uncommon company policy to send delinquent accounts to collections.  If one was to ignore the calls of VISA, their bank or a phone provider, their account would be handled the same way.

I'm sure you will be happy to know that, due to rare experiences such as this one, we've created an entire business to satisfy those who prefer the less expensive stock-design option instead of the custom design option. http://www.blushirt.com provides stock designs so you can save money.  Clearly, this doesn't undo your experience but you may take solace in knowing there's a new option for those who don't wish to pay for a custom design.  For a custom design like yours there is a lot of labour and passion invested.  If you recall, your designer spent about an hour with you both at your home, more than a full day drafting your full colour and black and white designs for the front and back of your home, and countless hours trying to reach you for months after sending the design.

For anyone else reading this thread, you can see our designs for free at http://www.blushirt.com or feel free to contact Heather & Dave's talented baby nephew.

Yes, it is unfortunate that you have brought this to this low state.  We do not like being held responsible for your company’s absent-mindedness for being upfront about design fees.  They were not discussed up front or on the phone.  That is a fact.  We had 4 other quotes provided.  One company (Let’s Landscape) was VERY clear about upfront fees and wanted $1000 to draw up a plan.  We turned them down immediately.  Three others provided drawings at no charge that demonstrated they actually listened to us. This is the price of doing and earning business.

As far as sending delinquent accounts to collection agencies, yes that is common for companies that have signed agreements (like VISA, a bank or phone provider), but not for companies that state there was a “discussion” on design fees. Furthermore, as I recall, the designer spent far less than an hour with us and once we received the design we made comment that he could not have been listening to us as what was on the drawing was very little of what we asked for and there was many omitted items.

If your designer spent “a lot of labor and passion” and “more than a full day drafting” our black and white design, I am now thinking of getting into the business.  I could draw topographical plants on our Monarch site plan in about 30 minutes – it’s that easy!

Also, since you spent “countless hours trying to reach us”, why did you not knock on our door?  Your embellishments of your efforts are quite humorous.  I don’t apologize for not choosing you, but the better company won the bid.

Anyways, ‘nuff said… just want to make people aware of the depths some companies will lower themselves, and the types of business antics they will exploit.
